Learn About Harry Potter

As Harry struggles through his adolescence, he learns to overcome and devotee the many magical, emotional and social hurdles he faces. When Harry was a baby he watched his parents being murdered by the evil dark wizard Lord Voldemort. Voldemort tries to murder Harry with a spell but the spell rebounds and Voldemort is apparently killed. Harry luckily survives this dangerous encounter and is unhurt apart from a lightning-shaped mark left on his head.

As the saviour from Voldemort's reign of evil, Harry is revered in the wizard world. His patron, a good wizard called Albus Dumbledore, places the now orphaned Harry into a Muggle home where he is kept safe, but unaware of his wizard heritage.

On his eleventh birthday Harry's wizardry origins are revealed to him By Rubeus Hagrid and he is sent to Wizard school called Hogwarts. Hogwarts is wizard school that, along with all else magical is invisible to non-wizards yet co-exists with the general world. With the aid of Hagrid, Harry starts his magical studies at Hogwarts.

During his first year introduction to magic and wizardry, Harry forms and gains two close friendships with Ron Weasley and Herione Grange. Ron is a wizard and Herione is a witch. At the end of his first year, Harry has another encounter with Lord Voldemort. Voldemort is on a quest for immortality and wants to know the power of the Philosopher's Stone.

"The chamber of Secrets" describes Harry's second year at school where he investigates the 50-year old difficulty that is interfering with the school. Ron's younger sister enrols at Hogwarts although she is soon possessed by Voldemort through her diary and opens the "Chamber of Secrets", unleashing the monster that has been trapped there. The year ends with Harry saving Ginny Weasley (Ron's younger sister) by destroying the diary that Voldemort had saved some of his life force in. Otherwise known as a "Horcrux".

"The Prisioner of Azjaban" follows Harry's third year at Hogwarts where he uncovers that he was targeted by Sirius Black, an escaped murder who assisted in the death of Harry's parents. Harry learns that the Dementors (dark creatures with the power to devour human souls) are protecting the school. Remus Lupin teaches Harry the art of magical defence which is well above the general power level for a third year wizard. Lupin and Black were both close friends of Harry's father.

The fourth year at school, as described in "The Goblet of Fire", sees Harry partake in the "Triwizard Tournament", a very dangerous contest with visiting foreign wizards and witches from other schools. Harry tries to work out who forced him to compete in this event. Professor Alastor Moody guides Harry through the tournament but the new teacher is not what he seems to be and is positively one of Voldemort's supporters in disguise. It is revealed that the whole thing was a trap to kidnap Harry and bring Voldemort back to power.

"The Order of the Pheonix" details Harry's fifth year at school where he must confront the resurfaced Voldemort and Dumbledore hurriedly re-activates "The Order of the Pheonix" in response. The underground order includes, surrounded by others, Lupin, Black and members of the Weasley family.

The Ministry of Magic refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned and appoints Dolores Umbridge as the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. She bans the use of magic to defend against dark magic so Harry forms a underground study group to teach his classmates defence. Harry discovers that he and Voldemort have a painful connection allowing a telepathic link between the two wizards. The year ends with Harry and his school friends fighting with Voldemort's Death Eaters only to be saved by the Order of the Pheonix.

"The Half-Blood Prince" follows Harry's sixth year after they have passed their Owl (Ordinary Wizard Level) and Voldemort is leading another wizard war. This war is becoming increasingly violent and starting to be noticed by general people. Harry learns the art of creating potions and with the help of Dumbledore who also helps Harry relive some painful memories of the early years of Voldemort.

These memories report that Voldemort's soul is split into eveil enchanted items which are underground in dissimilar locations. At the end Draco Malfoy attacks Dumbledore and he is ultimately killed by Professor Snape.

"The Deathly Hallows" follows after Harry's sixth year at school and Voldemort has gained control of the Ministry of Magic. Harry, ron and Hermione leave school to find and destroy the remaining horcruxes. As they crusade they learn details of Dumbledore's past and Snape's real motive.

The series ends with Harry, Ron, Hermione, some of the teachers and the Order of the Pheonix battling to defend Hogwarts from Voldemort and his evil creatures. With the last horcrux destroyed, Harry must ultimately face Voldemort. He offers the evil lord one last occasion but Voldemort ignores Harry's offer and attempts to ultimately kill Harry. Again the spell rebounds and that is the end of Voldemort.
